“Pathways to Excellence”
Greetings!
It is my distinct honor to serve as the Superintendent of Essex County Public Schools. Having periodically visited and worked in the division over the last couple of months, it is obvious to me that this is a special place, full of potential and good people. I am ecstatic that the day has come that I am officially “on board.”
This is such an exciting month to begin our work together with all the end-of-year activities and the culmination of the important work we do – high school graduation. Faculty, staff and parents, please take a moment to reflect and congratulate yourself for all that you do to make this time of year so special for the students and the community.
Students please take this time to commit yourselves to continued learning as you tackle the challenges of a global society. You are always in our thoughts, and we want the best for you. Congratulations on a successful school year…and to our seniors – Congratulations! Do good things and good things will happen for you!
As I indicated upon my hire, my initial focus is to listen, learn, and gather information. Please share your thoughts, aspirations, and ideas. Through this process, I hope we will expand upon the notion of Pathways to Excellence. From my perspective, excellence means that we build upon our successes to create a system which fosters a student-centered continuous improvement model that meets the academic, athletic, artistic, and vocational needs of all our students. In so doing, we will guide, inspire, celebrate, and teach our students as we equip them to tackle the challenges of a global society.
It is important that I gather input from our various stakeholders as to what Essex County Public Schools should “Continue, Start, Stop, and Amend”:
- What should ECPS continue doing? (This can be anything - including a program, practice, norm, activity, etc.)
- What should ECPS start doing?
- What should ECPS stop doing?
- What is ECPS currently doing which should be amended (changed) in some way?
Please visit https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/ECPS-Continue-Start-Stop-Amend-Survey to comment on these questions. I ask for your participation as we collectively enter this new phase of our school system’s future.
My firm belief is that above all, our efforts should focus on our students and the community. If we align our activities to this, we will succeed. I value the foundation which has been built; and with our dedication, we will continue to make progress. I look forward to our partnership and ask that you help me improve the lives of our students and our community.
Thank you for all you do to support Essex County Public Schools. Have a wonderful summer!
- Dr. Scott A. Burckbuchler, Superintendent
