STEM Opportunities are available!!! Do you love Science, Technology and/or Math, we have program opportunities for you!!!! Please see below as well as the attachments for each program!! WE encourage you to apply. These are great, great, great...did we say great ways to enhance your academic resume.

 

EXCITING FREE OPPORTUNITIES FOR VIRGINIA STUDENTS! Greetings, Virginia Space Grant Consortium (VSGC) provides several FREE and highly engaging Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) learning opportunities for Virginia students currently in grades 8-12. We are asking for your help in getting the word out to your students by sharing this email with teachers, students, parents, and counselors in your school division. These programs inspire students who possess technical and/or scientific interests and are motivated to learn more about STEM and to explore career options in STEM fields. Two of the programs offer five (5) dual enrollment college credits at no cost to the students. The applications for our three online programs are OPEN UNTIL October 25, 2020.


Virginia Space Coast Scholars (VSCS) is an interactive online STEM learning experience for 10th grade students highlighted by a seven (7) day residential summer academy at NASA Wallops Flight Facility focusing on the current missions at Wallops. Learn more about VSCS at

Virginia Aerospace Science and Technology Scholars (VASTS) is an interactive online STEM learning experience for 11th and 12th grade students, highlighted by a seven (7) day residential summer academy at NASA Langley Research Center focusing on human spaceflight. The Virginia Earth System Science Scholars (VESSS) is an interactive online STEM learning experience for 11th and 12th grade students, highlighted by a seven (7) day residential summer academy at NASA Langley Research Center, focusing on the Earth’s responses to climate changes, weather, and natural hazards. Additional program descriptions and links follow: Building Leaders for Advancing Science and Technology (BLAST) is a three-day, immersive, on-campus summer experience for current 8th and 9th grade students. Faculty at participating schools (Old Dominion University, Virginia Tech, and University of Virginia) lead students in exciting activities and demonstrations, igniting their curiosity about career paths in STEM fields. Pathways Flight Academies Program: High school students can apply in the late Fall for the opportunity to experience a free, two-week, intensive, residential flight academy in the Summer of 2021. Students will undertake ground and flight training that can culminate in their first solo flight! Students will immerse themselves in the field of aviation and discover exciting career opportunities as professional pilots while learning to fly. Students must be 16 years of age, receive an FAA Medical Certificate, and sign up for a FAA Student Pilot Certificate to begin the program if selected.
