Chromebook Information

Dear Essex Parents, ECPS will be providing Chromebooks for all students in need for the 2021-22 school year. Each child can receive a Chromebook to assist with virtual instruction in the event school must close due to COVID-19. Many students who attended ECPS last year will already have a device. Those students should continue to use the assigned device. Newly enrolled students and students in Pre-K, Kindergarten, 4th Grade, and 8th Grade may check out a Chromebook. The parent and student will be required to complete the signature page of the Chromebook Use Agreement form when picking up a Chromebook. Parents have the option to purchase insurance for the Chromebook through School Device Coverage (SDC). We have already worked out a plan for parents to allow them to pay $27 for one year of coverage. This plan will protect against breaks, drops, loss, theft, and much more. Please review the link below if you are interested in this optional service for help protecting the Chromebook you receive.

If you elect not to purchase the optional insurance, damages to the Chromebook will be resolved in the following manner. ECPS will charge $50 for the first incident requiring repair or replacement of the damaged Chromebook. After the first repair, we will charge the full Chromebook price for replacement. Chromebooks will only be repaired or replaced after payment is received.

Hotspot Information

If you do not have internet access at home and are interested in receiving a hotspot for your child's use during the 2021-22 school year, please review the following information. Please note that this hotspot can only be used for your child's schoolwork. You will be required to sign the Hotspot Device Use Agreement form. Please review the links below. The parent and student will be required to complete the signature page when picking up a hotspot. Please fill out the “2021-22 Student Hotspot Interest Form” if you are interested in receiving a hotspot for use during the 2021-22 school year. Hotspots will be replaced at the full cost of the device if they are lost or damaged.

General Information

Please review the following scheduled pickup time for Chromebooks and Hotspots. You will be required to show identification when you pickup the device. Hotspot pickup location will be based on the school of the child entered on the request form.

  • August 10th, 2021 - Tappahannock Elementary School, 4:30 pm to 6:40 pm

  • August 11th, 2021 - James H. Cary Intermediate School, 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm

  • August 10th, 2021 - Essex High School, 5 pm to 7 pm
