The Tasks will be done(flexibly) on the following schedule(over approximately four weeks+ of daily class time):

Task 1: The book will be read on a daily basis, and the following study guide will be completed(The study guide is found at http://www.stemnet.nf.ca/CITE/number_the_stars.htm. ), as follows:
1. Day 1-- Chapter 1 and Chapter 2
2. Day 2-- Chapter 3 and Chapter 4
3. Day 3-- Chapter 5 and Chapter 6
4. Day 4-- Chapter 7 and Chapter 8
5. Day 5-- Chapter 9 and Chapter 10
6. Day 6-- Chapter 11 and Chapter 12
7. Day 7-- Chapter 13 and Chapter 14
8. Day 8-- Chapter 15 and Chapter 16

We will also be doing other activites from the above website, to work on our SOL reading objectives. These will be assigned on given days in class.

Task 2: Inspiration concept maps will be developed on characters from the novel(the templates for these will be placed on the common student folder on the network). Different groups will have a concept map to do on one the following characters: AnneMarie, Ellen, Kirsti, Mrs. Johansen, Peter, Uncle Henrik. Groups will share copies of their concept maps with the entire class, and copies of the concept maps will be printed and added to your Interactive Notebook.

Task 3(and Task 4's research): will begin with 2-3 days of research, followed by 2-3 days of producing both the Imaginary Diary, and the individual PowerPoint slides on your children(see the Task page for details--but the child name should be on both PowerPoint slides), and on the rescuers you choose to profile. You should keep your research notes on a Word document in your group folder, both on the child victim, the rescuer, and on the background of the Holocaust. Collect pictures, information, music and sounds. Keep a list of your sources on a Word document in your group folder for all materials you collect.

Task 4: will be completed as a group effort, and developed during the research phase of the project.Your group will then complete the final project of a Photostory documentary of what you discover is the "real story" of what happened to Jewish people during the Holocaust, and what you want others to both know and FEEL about it. We will do this project after completing and showing the PowerPoints in Task 3 to the class.

Task 5: You will periodically be asked to respond to blog topics on TappedIn, and to respond to the views of your classmates on different issues in the novel. You will respond after the following chapters: Chapter5, Chapter 10, and Chapter 15. There will be book quizzes and a final novel test also.
