WELCOME TO ESSEX COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS!

We are excited that you have taken time to learn more about our school division.  Essex County is located in Virginia’s Middle Peninsula and covers approximately 261 square miles.  Centrally located just outside of the Washington to Norfolk urban crescent, Tappahannock (the County seat) is within an hour’s drive of Richmond (38 miles), Fredericksburg (47 miles) and Williamsburg (56 miles).  With a rich history, beautiful countryside, the shores of the Rappahannock River, and close proximity to major urban areas, Essex is a great location!     

Essex County Public Schools is comprised of one elementary school, one intermediate school, and one high school where approximately 1,500 students are currently enrolled.  All three schools are located in the town of Tappahannock.  Our school division is one of the largest employers in the community employing approximately 250 full and part time employees.  We are proud of the commitment of our high-quality teachers, strong parental involvement and our overwhelming community support.
